Oats are a great way to start your day! They will help you to feel full and give you lasting energy to do all the things you enjoy. Even better, oats are packed with fiber and other nutrients that help to keep the heart healthy and prevent us from getting certain diseases. While all oats are great, steel cut and regular rolled oats (as opposed to the quick-cook type) are the healthiest.

Almond Butter Oat Bites (yields 5 bites)

2 tablespoons almond butter (or another type of nut/seed butter)
1/2 cup whole oats
1 tablespoon maple syrup
1 tablespoon hemp seeds

Mix almond butter, oats, and maple syrup in a bowl, using just a spoon to fold them together. Pour hemp seeds onto a plate. Using your hands, create small balls out of the almond butter "dough" you've created. Roll each ball in the hemp seeds until it’s lightly covered. Enjoy as is or cover and refrigerate so that the bites are firmer.

Outrageous Oat Bars (serves 8)

2 cups rolled oats
1/2 cup chopped dates
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
2 large ripe bananas, mashed
1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all the ingredients in a large bowl until well combined, using your hands if needed. Press into a 9-by-9-inch baking pan and bake for 30 minutes. When cool, cut into 8 bars.
